Support from the City

The Special Event Support Program Grant Application period is now closed.

Each year, the City provides financial support for a limited number of special events to promote cultural, educational, and entertainment events.

For calendar year 2023, the City provided $25,000 in special event support, while receiving twelve applications requesting over $70,000 in City support. Of those, all twelve applications were funded or partially funded.

For 2024, $25,000 is budgeted for special event support. A Special Event Support Review Committee, comprised of community members appointed by the City Council, will review all applications requesting City support and make funding recommendations to City Council, which will then ultimately determine the recipients who will receive the funding. To be eligible to receive City support, event organizers must:

Obtain a Special Event Permit from the City
Be a non-profit organization recognized by the IRS
Provide proof of a valid Business Tax Certificate
Have a Board of Directors with meetings open to the public
Provide the City with a report describing (1) how City funds were used and (2) the results of anything described in the recipient's application for funding

The following preferences will be considered during review of applications:

Preference to fund events where event proceeds are used locally within Simi Valley
Preference to fund events with greater community/public benefits over events with lesser community/public benefits

Special Events

Simi Valley enjoys dozens of carnivals, fairs, car shows, art shows, fundraising walks/runs, concerts, and other cultural events each year. These events require planning and may require City services to run smoothly.
