Brian GablerBrian Gabler began working with the City of Simi Valley in June 1986. Through his employment with the City, Mr. Gabler has been involved in multiple aspects of City operations including the City’s Community Development Block Grant Program, the City Clerk’s Office, management and operation of the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center, and coordination of the City’s municipal bonds.

Career History

Beginning in 1987, Mr. Gabler was responsible for Simi Valley’s redevelopment activities through the Simi Valley Community Development Agency until February 2012 when the State of California dissolved all redevelopment agencies. Mr. Gabler has subsequently assumed responsibility for staffing the Simi Valley Oversight Board and Successor Agency.

Mr. Gabler has coordinated the design and construction of several City facilities, including the Simi Valley Police Station, the Boys & Girls Club of Moorpark & Simi Valley (Simi Valley location), two expansions and remodels of the Simi Valley Senior Center, and an expansion and remodel of Simi Valley City Hall. In his capacity as liaison with non-profit corporations, Mr. Gabler formed the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center Foundation and the Simi Valley Police Foundation.

In January 1999, as part of the City’s growing emphasis on economic development, Mr. Gabler was appointed the Director of Economic Development and Assistant City Manager. In that capacity, Mr. Gabler lead the staff of the City’s Office of Economic Development in creating programs and strategies to attract and retain business in Simi Valley. He serves as liaison to the City’s business community in their interactions with various City departments, and provides guidance to the development community in navigating the City’s development application process. Under Mr. Gabler’s direction, the Office of Economic Development completed in 2005 the development of the Simi Valley Town Center, a mixed-use 1.3 million-square-foot regional shopping center and 500-unit apartment project.

Honors

Among the honors received, the Simi Valley Chamber of Commerce named Mr. Gabler as the Business Person of the Year for 2001.

Mr. Gabler was named one of the Deal Makers of the Year for 2005 by the Pacific Coast Business Times and was honored in the Who’s Who in Business Leadership for 2007, 2008, and 2009 by the Pacific Coast Business Times.

The Acorn Newspapers named Mr. Gabler one of the Top 25 Local People in Simi Valley for 2011.

Education

Mr. Gabler holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from California State University Northridge, and a Master of Science degree in Public Administration from the University of Southern California.

Boards and Commissions

Mr. Gabler has served on numerous community and Countywide boards, including the Kiwanis Club of Santa Susana where he served two terms as President, the Simi Valley Community Foundation, the Simi Valley Samaritan Center, Simi Valley Police Foundation where he served as Board President in 2006, and the United Way of Ventura County.

He currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Ventura County Workforce Investment Board and is Special Advisor to the Manufacturers Roundtable of Ventura County.

Mr. Gabler lives in Simi Valley with his wife, Karen, an attorney, and their children, Sam and Sarah.
