Neighborhood Councils are a unique part of the City of Simi Valley government with many of our neighbors taking an active role in community-based efforts. The City is organized into four Neighborhood Council districts with every City resident 18 years and older considered a member of their Neighborhood Council.

Recruitment

Each Neighborhood Council has a 13 member volunteer Executive Board that represents the residents in their district. Executive Board members serve for two years, with new terms beginning every eight months. To apply you must be at least 18 years old, a resident of the City of Simi Valley, and be eager to be an active part of your community. If you would like to participate in local government, learn about your City, and have a direct voice in the issues and concerns that matter to you, Neighborhood Councils are the place for you.

The City closed it's recruitment for Neighborhood Council Executive Board members on Friday, March 29, 2024. Successful candidates will be appointed by the City Council to serve in an advisory capacity for two-year terms from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2026. Neighborhood Council FAQs

What do Neighborhood Councils do?

They act as a link between City government and residents. They advise the City Council and Planning Commission on resident concerns, development projects, and other matters on which the City Council has specifically requested their input. They offer residents a regular opportunity to voice their concerns or ask questions about their neighborhood and city. They work within the City's government structure to develop ideas and recommendations for community concerns related to planning and development projects, public safety, traffic issues, community services, etc.

Why are Neighborhood Councils important?

Neighborhood Councils allow residents to participate in local government at the neighborhood level. They give the City Council and City staff a clearer understanding of community concerns and advise the City Council and Planning Commission on development projects from the perspective of residents.

When do the Neighborhood Councils Meet?

Each Neighborhood Council Executive Board meets once a month at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Room at City Hall: 2929 Tapo Canyon Road, Simi Valley, CA 93063.
